Research at the Centre de Recherches Pétrographiques et Géochimiques (CRPG) focuses on understanding the Earth system, from the formation of the solar system to present-day processes. Our research teams bring together geochemists, petrologists and geologists who combine their approaches in four scientific themes that determine the life of the laboratory:

Activity at the CRPG is strongly influenced by the geochemical instrumentation at the heart of the many research projects. These analytical approaches are associated with modelling efforts and petrological and physical simulations. Researchers at the CRPG are heavily involved in field work and sampling missions on four continents. The CRPG also runs two national analytical services under the Institut des Sciences de l’Univers (INSU): the Service d’Analyse des Roches et des Minéraux (SARM) and the Service National des Sondes Ioniques (LG-SIMS-Nancy).

The CRPG is a joint laboratory of the CNRS-INSU and the Université de Lorraine (UL), and is an OSU OTELo laboratory, one of the UL research branches. The CRPG is centred on the INSU themes ‘Solid Earth’ and ‘Surfaces and Continental Interfaces’. The CRPG employs and hosts more than 100 people.
