Title: The Solar System’s Great Divide
Abstract: There exist many dynamical models for terrestrial planet formation in the Solar System; each of these have their strengths and weaknesses, yet none of them reproduce all the properties of the inner planets. One glaring problem is that the inner and outer Solar System have remained separated since its inception. This places formidable constraints on its formation and evolution.
Here I discuss taking a data-based approach: I use nucleosynthetic and chronological constraints based on laboratory analyses of (extra-)terrestrial samples to establish the early history of our Solar System and thereon build a model of how the planets formed.
