Geochemistry of the Apollo Granulite Suite: Insights into metamorphism on the Moon

Lunar Granulites represent a suite of metamorphic rocks that are the result of high-temperature recrystallization within the crust. Whereas conditions that result in this style of metamorphism are generally well understood on Earth; this is not the case for the Moon. Detailed studies of mineral chemistry can constrain the temperature and duration of metamorphism, in turn, shedding light on the potential heat sources within the crust. Additionally, mineral chemistry indicates that the protoliths represent crustal rocks that have not been sampled by Apollo, making the granulites an important suite of rocks for constraining the compositional diversity of the lunar crust.
